Abstract
The optimal treatment for mitral regurgitation from leaflet prolapse or multiple leaflet pathology is not yet established. Recently, artificial chordae formation with polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE) has become increasingly popular.
We experienced 15 years old female patient with mitral regurgitation due to valve prolapse. The cause of mitrial valve regurgitation was rheumatic, and MR grade was serere state. The functional class was NYHA III.
The patient has undergone repair of mitral valve by the artificial chordae formation technique. And ring annuloplasty was performed.
Postoperation, there was trevival MR and NYHA class I.
We believe that PTFE sutures can be used safely to replace diseased chordae of the mitral valve when conventional techniques of chordae repair are not possible.
